Frequently Asked Rhinoplasty Recovery Time Questions
These are some of the most common questions about rhinoplasty recovery time received by Dr Shahidi and his staff.
Question: How much will the procedure hurt?
Answer: Rhinoplasty has made significant advancements in its ability to deliver high-calibre results with diminished pain and recovery. Most patients report minor discomfort after the procedure including localised sensitivity, swelling and throbbing. Patients occasionally report headaches and additional symptoms, which can be addressed should you experience them.
Question: How long will recovery take?
Answer: Most patients can have their initial sutures and cast removed within 7-8 days. Bruising will generally take a few additional weeks to fully heal, but this should not impact on your ability to carry out normal daily activities and to work.
Question: Are there any major risk factors?
Answer: Any surgery carries inherent risks. However, Dr Shahidi and his team bring an exceptional level of professionalism and precision to every rhinoplasty procedure they perform. Dr Shahidi will always explain the potential risk factors with patients during the initial consultation period. That way, you can be fully informed about the procedure and what to expect.
Rhinoplasty Recovery Day-by-Day
If you’re interested in understanding what recovery will be like for a rhinoplasty, have a look at the typical day-by-day recovery indicators listed below:
Day 1: You will likely have bruising and swelling under the eyes and on and around the nose. Sutures and a cast cover up the majority of the nose, but you’ll likely experience some pain and associated headaches.
Day 7-8: The sutures and casts are removed from the nose. Bruising and swelling will diminish significantly by the one-week threshold. However, localised pain will still be present with some minor swelling and bruising.
Day 14: At the two-week point, the majority of the pain, bruising and swelling should have subsided. Most patients report minor pain and stiffness but a significant overall healing and improvement. At this stage most people return to work.
Day 30: By the end of the first month. Most external signs of the procedure such as bruising and swelling should be fully healed. The first month we call ‘the ugly month’ where the swelling makes the nose look ‘not quite right’ and much more bulbous than the final result. Usually by the third month most patients are seeing their results. It takes 12-18months for the swelling to completely settle and through this time the nose will continue to improve.
